Exhibition catalogue published to accompany the historical exhibition '3 x Abstraction' at The Drawing Center, New York (19.03–21.05.2005). It presents the work of three pioneering women artists: Hilma af Klint (Sweden, 1862–1944), Emma Kunz (Switzerland, 1892–1963), and Agnes Martin (Canada/U.S., 1912–2004). These three artists, each from a different generation spanning the last one hundred years, approached geometric abstraction not as formalism, but as a means of visualizing philosophical, scientific, and transcendental ideas. '3 x Abstraction' introduced the work of af Klint and Kunz—which has been eclipsed for so long—and revisited Martin's work from a new perspective.
