This publication was made in addition to the light-installation of Gabriel Lester, commissioned by Ymere for the renovation project of the façade of the west side of the Witte de Withstraat in Rotterdam. The work of Gabriel Lester exists of spatial installations in which he manipulates the reality by montages of light, décor and rhythm. For his installation in the Witte de Withstraat he used the quality of the architecture. The pronounced bay windows originally brought daylight into the staircases and at night it gave an outside view of the inside traffic. The light-installation of Lester refers to elevators that slowly go up and down along the 23 bay windows. In this way the artist brings back the original idea of giving public visibility to the inside traffic. With essays of Jan Rothuizen and Xander Karskens.
